Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are substances that are injected under the skin and are used to fill and smooth facial lines and wrinkles. Fillers can be used for lines and wrinkles around the mouth, eyes, nose and forehead and can enhance the lips giving them greater volume and a fuller appearance. Anyone can benefit from dermal fillers, both men and women.
Several types of dermal filler are available. A good way of classifying dermal fillers is according to their composition:
Collagen containing dermal illers
These are made from collagen; a substance that is found naturally in skin and which gives it its natural elasticity.
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers
These fillers make more hyaluronic acid; a substance that is found naturally in the skin and which results in better lubrication and cushioning under the skin surface. Restylane and Hydra Fill are probably the most popular hyaluronic acid products.
Poly-L-lactic acid
These fillers are made from poly-L-lactic acid a substance that stimulates the production of more collagen in the skin and so produces an increase in the thickness of the skin.
